However, it wasn’t the 35-year-old star’s efforts on the bike that brought her to the headlines.

After the triumph in his native country, Van Dijk received a vibrator, lubricant and a blindfold from sponsors EasyToys.

She quickly took to Twitter to share a snapshot of her award, a pink shoebox filled with a number of sex toys.

And they included a satin headband, playing cards, lube and a vibrator!

Van Dijk seemed to see the fun side, captioning the photo with: “Women’s cycling awards are getting better.

“You can leave tips on how to use it in the comments.”

However, not everyone found it amusing as fans lashed out at his winnings.

One wrote: “That can’t be true. It’s scandalous !! You must file a report.

Another said: “What other sport would give this as a prize? Disrespectful.”

It’s not the first time women’s cycling has been lambasted for its awards after Jolien D’Hoore received a vacuum after winning the Ronde van Drenthe in 2015.

EasyToys previously caused a storm when the Dutch FA blocked them from appearing on FC Emmen shirts.

In response, the company installed an X-Rated inflatable outside the club’s stadium.
