Lake Zurich Police have launched a new program where officers will hand out gift cards to motorists instead of citations to help drivers fix vehicle equipment violations.

Lake Zurich Police has partnered with Advance Auto Parts to launch the program, which aims to increase road safety for local motorists in the area.

Representatives of the Advance Auto Parts Lake Zurich store, located at 740 South Rand Road, presented Lake Zurich Police Chief Steve Husak and Lake Zurich officers with gift cards worth $1,500 per $25 increments to launch the initiative.

Officers can issue motorists a $25 gift card instead of a citation to encourage them to safely repair headlights, taillights or other minor equipment problems, the department said.

“As we head into summer and more drivers hit the road, it’s important to keep road safety in mind,” Husak said.

“These are tough economic times. By partnering with our local Advance Auto Parts store, we can help drivers get the parts they need to drive their vehicle safely,” added Husak.

Motorists who receive a gift card can use the card at any Advance Auto Parts store, including the Lake Zurich store.

The Lake Zurich Police is the first agency in Lake County and second in Illinois to participate in the initiative.
