New Britain Herald – New Britain Neighborhood Housing Services offering gift cards to those who attend free financial coaching services

NEW BRITAIN – New Britain Neighborhood Housing Services will offer an incentive to anyone interested in participating in free financial coaching services.

For a limited time, NHSNB will be offering $100 in gift cards to those who attend their free financial coaching services. Coaches are certified by the Department of Housing and Urban Development to help individuals and families achieve their financial goals, prevent possible foreclosures or evictions, and gain financial stability.

NHSNB CEO Chris Sanders said the hope is the gift cards will encourage residents to take part in the scheme.

“As the covid pandemic begins to ease and many financial relief programs begin to wind down, households can really benefit from the financial literacy services we have to offer. We hope the gift cards will convince some people to take advantage of our free service,” Sanders said.

The program can be completed in three in-person or Zoom sessions, which are free. Participants will learn how to manage bill payments and develop an action plan to manage their finances. Upon completion of all three sessions, attendees will receive a total of $100 in gift cards.

Home Services Manager Maria Rosiello is one of NHSNB’s financial coaches.

“Learning about credit, a feasible spending plan, how to save, and the importance of insurance is a step in the right direction for building generational wealth,” Rosiello said. “It’s often about not knowing what you don’t know. Once you learn how and why you should be financially healthy, you will no longer be financially exploited.

NHSNB coaches will work with each participant to gather the information needed to understand their financial situation and goals in the first session. Participants will receive a preliminary action plan and on the second visit they will discuss the challenges in more detail. Advisors will provide specific recommendations for improvement and participants will receive an updated action plan. Coaches will follow up with participants after a few months and remain available to review progress and make adjustments.

The financial support that NHSNB seeks to provide is to help participants achieve their financial goals, which may include owning a home, taking care of their family or stopping worrying about unpaid bills. Anyone interested in signing up for a financial coaching session or for more information can call 860-224-2433 x101 and request the limited time offer.
